Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

Sunday, December 7, will mark the first day of revenue service for the long-awaited Line 6 Finch West LRT.

Safety is, and will always be, our highest priority. This week, alongside Mayor Olivia Chow and Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw, we announced an increased police presence on our subway system. Starting in the new year, the Neighbourhood Community Officer program will expand to portions of Line 1, with dedicated coverage seven days a week and prioritized patrols at Union and Bloor during peak hours.

I want to recognize our exceptional TTC Special Constables, whose professionalism and care for our customers and employees set the standard every day. The new police patrols will bolster and complement the outstanding work upon which our Special Constables have built a foundation of safety and security across the system. I am grateful to Chief Demkiw for this enhanced deployment and for our ongoing collaboration to strengthen safety for everyone who relies upon the TTC.

We also announced that Sunday, December 7, will mark the first day of revenue service for the long-awaited Line 6 Finch West LRT. This milestone reflects the tireless work and dedication of TTC employees, our partners at Metrolinx, and the broader community. Since January, we have operated tens of thousands of test hours to ensure readiness. Line 6 will serve 18 stops along Finch Avenue West, connecting Finch West Station and Humber Polytechnic’s North Campus, with links to TTC buses and regional transit services. TTC will operate and staff the service, while Mosaic Transit Group will maintain infrastructure and vehicles under contract to Metrolinx.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Your commitment to safety, reliability, and customer service is what makes the TTC a vital part of Toronto.

Finally, I want to speak directly to the power of leadership within our organization. Leadership is not defined by title or position. It’s about the actions we take, the care we show, and the example we set for one another. Every member of the TTC team has the ability to lead in their own right, whether through a commitment to safety, a focus on customer service, or a willingness to support colleagues. I look forward to seeing even more examples of this leadership in action, every day, across our network.

This is why I established the Listen, Learn and Lead program. Over the past two months, senior leaders have participated in field visits throughout the TTC, engaging directly with employees, observing day-to-day operations, and gathering feedback to inform our actions moving forward. The feedback so far has been clear: our strength lies in our people through your professionalism, your pride in serving Toronto, and your dedication to continuous improvement.

We’ve heard about the value of open dialogue, the importance of supporting one another, and the need for ongoing engagement between leadership and frontline teams. These insights are shaping how we work together and how we build a culture where everyone feels empowered to lead, contribute, and make a difference.

As we move forward, I encourage every employee to embrace their role as a leader, regardless of where you work or what you do. If at any time you feel you are not receiving the leadership or support you need to succeed, please speak up and share your feedback. Don’t hesitate to challenge the status quo. Your voice matters, and it’s through honest conversation and constructive challenge that we continue to grow stronger together as a team.

Together, we will continue to listen, learn, and lead for the benefit of our customers, our colleagues, and our city.

With gratitude and resolve,

Mandeep S. Lali
